Based on the bestselling novel, Harvey Keitel, Melanie Lynskey, Jonah Hauer-King, Anna Próchniak, and Jonas Nay star in The Tattooist of Auschwitz, the six-part drama inspired by the real-life story of Lali and Gita Sokolov.
For the first three months of work at Union Visual Effects, I was the department lead on The Tattooist of Auschwitz. I managed the whole roto/prep team on the show and was responsible for all roto/prep bidding, briefing, and QC during my time on it. The show is absolutely full of elaborate, highly detailed roto. This comes from the large amount of set extensions being placed behind a lot of real chainlink fence and people due to the large number of actors and limited set that was built.
Our visual effects work on the show received the awards for Excellence in VFX – Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards and Best VFX – RTS Craft & Design Awards. We also received a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Episode at the 23rd VES Awards.
